“THE QUEST FOR SAFETY EXCELLENCE”
The ‘QUEST” seminar may just be the ultimate safety leadership
learning experience. Designed as an ‘experiential learning process’,
this unique program guides participants in discovering answers to
the ultimate question in safety: “Why do employees do what they do,
act unsafe, and have accidents?”
In this team-based
interactive program, (one day informational; two-day actionable),
participants are cast into bands of Crusaders tasked to find the
‘Grail’ of safety excellence. QUEST teams face a series of
‘challenges’ that expose organizational impediments, and identify
the attributes of high performance safety organizations. Challenges
targeting the critical drivers of workplace behavior: Leadership
(values), Management (methods), Organization (structure),
Consequence Delivery (practices), and Recognition and Rewards
(systems) are timed, graded, and competitively scored to baseline
current knowledge, instigate new thinking, and demonstrate the power
of performance feedback on human behavior…safe Vs unsafe.
The program imposes
many of the ‘reality constraints’ faced by managers in their daily
tasks of producing goods and services -- at quota, within
specification, on time, against competitive pressures, within
budget…AND without injuring anyone in the process! QUEST teams
engage in thinking exercises, and problem-solving workshops, that
track their evolving ability to answer the ‘Questions of Excellence:
-
Why do employees do
what they do, act unsafe, and have accidents?
-
What is the ultimate
goal (Grail) of safety excellence organizations?
-
What are
the ‘Four’ performance management strategies that offer but
one choice?
-
What is the
‘headwater issue’ that determines excellence (or mediocrity) in
an organization?
-
What are the ‘Five’
advanced strategies that define safety excellence?
-
What is the biggest
impediment to peak safety performance in most organizations?
-
What is the common
objective of all operations managers? Hint: Starts with
‘Pro__________!
-
What core ‘myth-conception’
impedes safety excellence in most companies?
-
What common denominator
differentiates leaders from managers?
-
What one powerful employee
motivator that has evaded managers for over 50 years?
-
Why is employee manipulation so
prevalent in today’s organizations?
-
Why is more training most likely
not the answer to repetitive at risk behaviors in an organization?
-
What consequences are most powerful
in improving safe work practices?…and
-
What are the four levels of
‘Organizational Intelligence’ requisite to overcoming safety mediocrity?
During this QUEST,
participants recognize how leadership practices that focus on
‘intrinsic motivation’, ‘involvement’, ‘teamwork’, ‘reinforcement’,
‘performance feedback’, and the ultimate motivator…‘appreciation’,
drives employee performance in an organization.
Not until the final
moments of this journey, when each band of brave crusaders face
their ultimate test, do we find out who successfully ‘crosses over’
to emerge victorious in the ‘QUEST for SAFETY EXCELLENCE!’
