Performance Strategies
For the past
seventy years, American business has focused almost exclusively on
the three “E’s” (Elements) of the safety success equation…Safety
Success = CEO…efforts primarily focused on: Education, Enforcement
and Engineering. In large part, organizations, and the safety
professionals who guide them, have mastered these traditional
strategies quite effectively...we have the programs, we have the
paper, we have the compliance—yet, peak performance continues to
evade us.
It’s time to move
beyond these operational strategies to the more critical components
of Safety Excellence—the advanced organizational strategies of “C”
(Culture) and “O” (Organization) factors in the business process.
This presentation and action planning facilitation sequentially
builds a strategy continuum of operational and organizational
strategies designed to span the ‘chasm of LOSS’ (Lack Of Safety
Strategy) in an organization. ‘SAFE Performance Strategies’
identifies the critical alignment of the seven strategy blocks of
safety excellence, and identifies “organizational behavior” as the
ultimate “keystone” strategy of success.

presentation is based on the author’s Professional Safety May 2000
cover/feature article; “The Architecture of Safety Excellence” ©
that describes the safety excellence strategy continuum, and
identifies ‘synergy’ as the unifying theory of success. The take
away from this learning experience is a greater understanding of
multiple strategies that comprise Safety’s Architecture For
Excellence, and the development of an organization specific (one
size fits us) action plan for attaining safety excellence results.
