“Safety Management R & D" (Rise or Demise)
This full day organizational learning experience is best
described as a mix of Safety Management ‘Jeopardy’, ‘The Price is
Right’, and ‘Deal or No Deal’… pick a case—any case. Designed to be
team-based and interactive, this seminar challenges safety
practioners, operations managers, and supervisor’s ‘thinking’ (ouch)
on what it takes to achieve peak safety performance.
The seminar starts by making the ‘short case’ for safety excellence,
by examining the ‘high price’ of mediocrity. It then proceeds to
guide attendees through a 5-step transformation process typically
experienced by organizations successfully attaining safety
excellence…a journey from organizational ‘Ignorance’ to
‘Intelligence’.
With the mandate for ‘CHANGE’ established, Part I of the seminar:
‘Safety Excellence 101’ explores eight critical components
forming the foundation of excellence - The 8 P’S of Peak Safety
Performance:
PURPOSE – POSITION – PRIORITY - ‘PH’OCUS – PROCESS – PRACTICE –
PERFORMANCE METRICS - & PASSION for Excellence.
Participants engage in a series of graded exercises addressing these
elements, and providing opportunity to earn knowledge points that
can be wagered in Part II.
In Part II – “Safety Management – Rise or Demise”,
participant teams examine facts, information, and data from an
actual case study on a safety improvement initiative. In four
discussion sessions, teams evaluate the actions taken to reduce LOSS
cost in the case study organization.
Upon conclusion, each team makes a determination on the
effectiveness of actions taken in the case study, and makes a sealed
prediction on the impact of these actions on injury costs in the
organization. With these predictions, teams wager some, all, or none
of their Part I accumulated points on what it takes to achieve
safety excellence. Not until the final prediction is read, and wager
revealed do we discover which team ‘RISES’ to the challenge of
safety Excellence.
