“What Safety Excellence Managers Do”
One of the most
commonly cited reasons (read excuses) for under performance in
safety is: ‘lack of management commitment’…a common allegation:
”They just don’t care!”
During the past 36
years, I’ve sat across the desks from hundreds of senior managers,
all pondering the same question…“How do we reduce workplace
accidents, eliminate pain and suffering, and minimize loss cost in
our operations?” And, contrary to popular belief, I’ve not yet met
one executive who honestly didn’t care!
The truth of the
matter is, senior executives care deeply…about many things --
most specifically delivering results to shareholders…and ‘keeping
their jobs’! And, as extremely intelligent individuals, they also
understand that the key to their success (and longevity) boils down
to: delivering products and services; at quota, per specification,
under budget, on time…and ‘NOT INJURING ANYONE IN THE PROCESS’!
Senior executives fully
comprehend Peter Drucker’s contention that: “Management’s number one
job is not the maximization of profit; it is the minimization of
loss”, because ‘loss, cost, and expense’ (the middle lines), are the
only things a manager can manage…and by effectively doing so, drop
top dollars (revenue) to bottom dollars (margin).
What many senior
managers openly confess about their role in safety is: “They
don’t know what to do!” They ask: “What ‘strategies’ can I develop?”
“What tactics can I employ?” and “What visible ‘actions’ can I
take?” to improve safety in my organization?”
This seminar responds
to these questions with over ‘seventy-five’ ‘best practice’ answers
compiled from fifty recognized high performance safety
organizations.
Culled from client
successes, media references, and best practice benchmarks, this
seminar explores the ‘Actions of Excellence’, actions which drive
both ‘effectiveness’ (doing the right things), and ‘efficiency’
(doing things right) in safety.
Put this seminar on
your ‘To Do’ list to learn ‘What safety excellence managers ‘DO’: to
establish their values, demonstrate their leadership, align their
organizations, communicate their expectations, motivate performance,
measure process, and reward results in safety.
To achieve peak
performance, leaders must ultimately face two core questions of
excellence:
This seminar offers
insight on those who have successfully answered both!
